Every year the second Sunday of May is dedicated to these selfless souls. In the United States, a commercial celebration of Mother's Day began in the early 20th century.

It all began when, Anna Jarvis campaigned in 1905 to make Mother’s Day an official holiday in the America when she held a memorial for her mother at St Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia. Her mother died in the same year and she wanted to commemorate her mother, a peace activist, who tended to injured soldiers during the American Civil War. In addition, Jarvis wanted to address public health problems with the celebration of Mother’s Day.

The proposal was rejected in 1908, and lawmakers even joked that if they allowed Mother’s Day, then there would have to be Mothers-in-Law Day. Thankfully, 1911 saw Mother’s Day as an official holiday.

1. Make her a meal (and a special drink)

She makes delicious meals and feeds the family all the time. On this special day give her a break from everyday household chores and surprise her by decorating the table and making her favorite dish.

2. Set up a massage/spa appointment for her

Mom will love being pampered on and she will appreciate that sweet gesture of yours.

3. Do a movie date with her

It will be a mom-and-you time and creating such memorable memories for her in a special way is too cute.

4. Design a scrapbook

Create a special memory book for her, that she will remember. Add your own designs, special pictures and all the moments that you shared together.

5. Plant a tree for her.

Give her the gift of the environment. Moms love taking care of plants just like their babies. Give her a small herb plant or a fruit tree like and orange plant or a lemon plant.

6. Go out on a picnic

Instead of going to a loud restaurant, make some healthy snacks and head to the park. Spend some quality time with her.

Show your mom how much you love and appreciate all the things she does for you. There is no way you can repay what she does for her children, but these small gestures for her will make her happy and bring a smile on her face.

Be sure to tell you mom, how much you love her every day you get a chance, because there are a lot of unfortunate people who have lost their moms to the Heavens and wish they can have atleast one chance to talk to their moms! Happy Mothers Day!
